March is Reading Month!
We kicked off Reading month with a celebration of Dr. Seuss! The students shared their favorite Dr. Seuss stories and they even got to try Green Eggs and Ham!! (The reading was fun, but the green eggs got mixed reviews!)
It may be snowing outside, but it's a beach reading day in First Grade!
First Grade is enjoying Spirit Week - especially Crazy Hair Day!
Love One Another
In celebration of Catholic Schools week, our Love One Another activity for January was to thank our community helpers for all that they do for us! First grade put together a gift basket of treats and made a card for the staff at Harborview Animal Hospital. It was a great way to spread love and thank those who make our world a better place!
The first graders are busy preparing their hearts for Jesus this Advent season. We have collected hats and mittens to donate with our own hat and mitten tree. It was fun to visit the St. Mary's Food Pantry to deliver all 13 bags! We have also made cards for all of the residents at Evergreen Village and we can't wait to deliver them later this month!
This week, the First Graders spent time learning about Native Americans and Pilgrims. We spent time making necklaces and headbands with Native American symbols. The students also practiced weaving colorful patterns. Next, we read about Pilgrim life and made our own Pilgrim hats.
We have had some fun classroom visitors recently. Father Dave came to speak with us about the Bible story of creation. We had lots of interesting questions for him! We also enjoyed a presentation from the Spring Lake Fire Department about Fire Safety!
Robinette's Apple Orchard Field Trip
We had a wonderful time learning about the apple orchard! We toured the orchard, navigated a maze together, made apple cider, enjoyed donuts and picked our own apples. It was a beautiful day!
Inspired by Saint Mary and rooted in our Catholic faith, St. Mary's School fosters spiritual development, academic excellence, responsibility to self, and service to others in order that the Gospel of Christ may be known in the world.
