BAPTISM Jesus Christ commanded his disciples to "Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (Mt. 28: 19) We, therefore, celebrate this sacrament for infants (up to 7 years old) on a regular basis to incorporate them into the Church and plant the seed of eternal life within them. **Due to COVID restrictions, all baptisms are currently done privately, usually after one of the weekend Masses. Contact Fr. Dave to schedule.** Infant baptisms are scheduled three times per month, once at each Mass. Which Mass will be assigned to which weekend will be decided on a 1st come-1st served basis. Baptisms may be celebrated outside of Mass for a good reason (such as one of the parents not being Catholic). Also, please note, Baptisms are not celebrated during Mass during Lent (March 6-April 20 this year), but may take place outside of Mass during this time.
A pre-baptism preparation class is required for the parents of their first child to be baptized, and is highly recommended for the godparents. Classes are currently being taught by Fr. Dave and we attempt to schedule them at a time that is convenient for everyone. Contact Father directly to schedule the class.
Call the Parish Office at (616) 842-1702 to schedule or register online for infant Baptism.
Adult baptism requires a more lengthy preparation process and normally takes place at the Easter Vigil as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) that also includes confirmation and first Eucharist. Please contact the director of RCIA, Dave Heinert, for more information.
