Rev. Mr. William C. Charron
Born: November 3, 1939 Detroit Michigan to Clement and Helen Charron. Baptized Roman Catholic at St. Bernard Church Detroit 100% Catholic School Education: Grades 1-6 at St. Bernard School and Grades 9-12 at Austin Catholic Preparatory School both in Detroit Michigan. Graduated June 1957. Catholic University Education 1957-1964: John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio and the University of Detroit in Detroit. Received AB degree in 1964 Married: Miss Diane Jackson at St. Matthew Church in Detroit June 27, 1959. Four children: David William (5-17-60) Deborah Lee (6-9-61) Carol Ann (2-5-65) Jennifer Lynn (10-6-70) 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren Professional: Employed by the S.S. Kresge Company, starting in June of 1956, in the Import Dept. sample room and transferred the stockroom of a store near Grosse Pointe Woods. Accepted into the Kresge management training program in the fall of 1958 and worked in stores in Harper Woods and Warren. Promoted to a key position in the headquarters sales department in 1962 with accompanying membership in the Detroit Jaycees representing Kresge’s as a sponsored member. Promoted to store manager in Fostoria Ohio followed by moves to a progression of larger stores in Lima OH, Madison Heights. MI and Pontiac MI. In 1972 after a year of training, appointed manager of a Kmart in Akron Ohio and 3.5 years later assigned to open a new Kmart store in Kentwood MI. (1976) In 1977 the company name was changed to Kmart Corporation. In 1983 promoted to District Manager of 14 Kmart stores in central Indiana that included metro Indianapolis. Returned to West Michigan in 1986 to be closer to family and assumed management of a local Kmart store prior to retirement in 1995. Stewardship: 1966-67 taught 10th grade religious education class at St. Wendelin Parish in Fostoria Ohio. 1968-69 member of the Serra Club of Lima Ohio and as such selected as a member of a panel discussion at Josephinum Pontifical Seminary in Columbus Ohio. 1971-72 member of Worship committee and Parish Council at St. Mary’s of Royal Oak MI. 1975 appointed to the Diocesan Pastoral Council of the Cleveland Ohio diocese by Bishop James Hickey. 1980-82 elected to the Parish Council at St. Robert of Newminster Church in Ada MI. 1984 selected for membership on the Pastoral Council at St. Francis DeSales Church Muskegon MI. 1996 employed as Parish Business Manager of Holy Family Church in Caledonia MI and subsequently to St. Patrick Church in Grand Haven MI in 1999 until retirement in 2006. Clerical: Began formation for the Permanent Diaconate in the fall of 1999 and formally installed as a candidate in 2003. Ordained to the permanent diaconate by Bishop Walter Hurley on February 11, 2006 and assigned to St. Mary’s Spring Lake. 2008-2010 at the request of diocese assisted six parishes with financial organization. Appointed as diocesan representative to Meitler Associates for the Our Faith Our Future Planning Program (January 2010- April 2013) Appointed to the Diocesan Catholic School Board in September 2012. Summary Reflection: After many years and untold scenarios I look back at the breadth and depth of the Catholic Education I received from grade school through college and the sacrifices made by my parents to provide that opportunity. I look back with gratitude for the gifts I received that have enhanced my understanding of the world in which we live. In all of our moves we look back and can appreciate the presence of the Holy Spirit in each of the places we have been sent. |
