Earlier this week we watched in sadness as the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris burned. This cathedral served as an icon of the Catholic faith not only for the people of France, but for Catholics around the world.
Many people are asking how they can materially help in the rebuilding of the cathedral. The USCCB will not be issuing a formal request for a national appeal but is directing Catholics to the fund set up by the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Shrine, whose Board of Members consists of the Administrative Committee of the USCCB, has the infrastructure in place to manage these donations and ensure that all funds are distributed to the Archdiocese of Paris for the rebuilding of the cathedral. Option 1: Checks may be sent to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Attn: Monsignor Walter Rossi, rector 400 Michigan Ave. NE, Washington, D.C. 20017 Checks should be made payable to “Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception” and “Cathedral of Notre Dame Fund” should be written on the memo line Option 2: Donate online through the basilica’s website
