Youth Minister and Confirmation Coordinator

General Summary:
St. Mary Parish in Spring Lake is seeking an individual who: Is responsible for coordinating preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation and leading a parish based pastoral ministry with junior and senior high school youth. Reaches out to all youth in the community, provides for formal catechesis, invites, and enables youth to serve others. Works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. Seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community. Develops close communication with and mutual support from families of youth and collaborates with other community and parish organizations.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
 
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field highly preferred. Diocesan Catechetical Certification required unless coming from outside of the Diocese of Grand Rapids (or equivalent skill and experience is evident).
 
Experience:
Has worked in youth ministry in a Catholic parish. Has people management and or coordination experience preferably with volunteers. Has taught the Catholic faith in at least an informal setting.
 
Other requirements:
Qualified applicants must possess effective communication, time management and organization skills. They must be able to work well with others, demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentially and be self-directed. They should be comfortable with the use of technology and/or have a willingness to be trained in its use and implementation in the program. All applicants must be fully initiated Catholics who faithfully adhere to and model the teachings and practices of the Catholic faith.
