Our School-Wide Virtue for the Week of November 26th is Docility. MEANING: Willingness to be taught.11/26/2018
Dear School Families,
We only had a few families apply for the Bishop's Scholarship so far. To be a part of the first round of scholarships awarded for the 2019-2020 school year, you need to have your SmartAid application completed by December 1, 2018. Visit our website to download the SmartAid Parent Instructions https://www.stmarysl.org/smart-tuition.html. Our Virtue these past two weeks have been Gratitude. I hope everyone takes time to reflect on the blessings in our lives. Next, we will introduce the Virtue Docility which means willingness to be taught. I'm very thankful and blessed to be the principal of St. Mary's Catholic School. We have a supportive parish and school community that shows their generosity in many ways, from our fundraisers and offertory, to our new building campaigns. Our students and staff are grateful to have this beautiful new school to learn and teach in, along with the updated security and technology. This coming week we will also have our annual Christmas Food Drive on Friday, November 30th. These items go to the St. Mary's Food Pantry so families in need in the Spring Lake area will have a nice dinner to celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. The first trimester ends and grades will be posted on Infinite Campus. The new report cards and grading system was given out at conference time. The Diocese of Grand Rapids has made a few changes to them already. This is new for all of us, so if you have any questions please contact your child's teacher. The report cards will be printed out and sent home the week after Thanksgiving break if everything goes as planned. God Bless. Steve VanHammen, Principal St. Mary's School, Spring Lake DUE TO SNOWY ROADS AND UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS, St. Mary's School will be closed TODAY, Monday, November 26th.
St. Mary's School has a donation box in our school lobby...PLEASE HELP US FILL THIS BOX! ❤️💚
For over 70 years, the American Legion Post #28 Goodfellows program has worked to make sure that the needy children of the Tri-Cities area have a good Christmas. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!
St. Mary's 7th & 8th grade students are leading this collection for our school. They are working with Project Hand-in-Hand collecting and bagging hygiene products that will be distributed to students within our community who need help. This school-wide effort is our Love One Another service project for November. From the Lincoln Pardon...to the Mullally Pardon.
Our 4th graders - on behalf of their TURKEYS - wrote a persuasive essay to their teacher, "President Mullally". The letter was to convince her they deserve a pardon from being Thanksgiving dinner. They all came up with occupations for their turkeys as part of their persuasion to be spared. There was a CIA agent, a teacher, a nun, a bartender, a dance instructor and more... ALL PARDONED ST. MARY'S SCHOOL-WIDE CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE
Donations are listed below by grade - please send in to school with your child by November 30th. All donations will be presented at the 9AM School Mass on Friday, November 30th - JOIN US! Dear School Families,
I would like to emphasize to our St. Mary's School families that the deadline for the first round of 2019-2020 Scholarships from the Diocese of Grand Rapids is December 1, 2018. You are more likely to receive a scholarship from the Diocese the earlier you get your financial information on Smart Aid. Please note, families will not be eligible to receive any St. Mary's Parish Scholarship Funds until the Smart Aid Application has a "Verified" status. Visit our website to view Smart Aid Parent Instructions https://www.stmarysl.org/smart-tuition.html. The weather is quickly changing, so please make sure that your children come to school prepared with weather-worthy clothing – hats, warm coats/jackets, snow pants, mittens and boots. We’ve received a lot of good feedback on our new hot lunch program. Thank you to those that have shared recipes and helped prepare our scratch made muffins and banana bread. God Bless.
