Construction of the new biogas system has started. This will provide a renewable source of fuel energy to be used in food preparation. It will benefit the orphanage in so many ways. Cow dung and other organic matter will 'feed' the biogas tank and convert that mass into cooking fuel. No longer will wood or charcoal be needed, thus reducing cooking time and prep. There will be less air pollution and risk of respiratory ailments. A by-product of bio-slurry will provide a safe liquid organic fertilizer that can increase crop yield by 25%. The stoves should be up and working by the end of January 2017.
