In Tanzania wood and charcoal are the main domestic fuels used for cooking. Gathering wood is a time consuming activity and expensive to purchase, which the orphanage must do in order to prepare hot food. Biogas is a fuel comprised of a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. It is produced by the bacterial decomposition of organic waste. Use of biogas for cooking will lower fuel expense needed to prepare food.
